Wedding Photography FAQ

Home / Wedding Guides / Wedding Photography FAQ

Q. Where are you guys based? Do you travel for wedding assignments?
A. We are primarily based in Mumbai. But we do travel all over the length and breadth of India (we have shot weddings as far north as Kashmir, as far east as Kolkatta, as far south as Kerala and as Far west as the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. And everywhere in between ofcourse ), and even across the world to cover weddings (as far west as the other side of the world, ie. United States of America). In fact a good percentage of the weddings we do is across destinations and out of Mumbai. We love travelling, meeting new people (read the couples we shoot), and forging new friendships. We do it day in and day out and love it.

Q. Do you charge an extra amount for the weddings that you do outstation?
A. No, we do not charge any additional amount for weddings done outstation. The charges are same all over. The scape of the photography industry has changed, and we believe that everyone has the equal right to access of great services, irrespective of location. But like all other photography teams across the world, the travel and accommodation is provided for by the client. This is an industry standard.

But in all outstation weddings, the photography team loses a day or two just travelling back and forth. We do not charge extra for that. So it kind of gets adjusted with the travel expenses and the accommodation expenses.

Q. What kind of Travel & Accommodation do you expect to be provided for outstation weddings?
A. We are non-fussy about our travel and accommodation. We are OK with train or bus travel, when the journey involved isn’t too time consuming or tiring. We do adjust though. For eg. on our journey to a wedding shoot in Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh, we travelled by flight to Delhi, then a 12 hour bus journey to somewhere up north and another couple of hours by taxi, in contrast to a direct flight to Dharmshala. When it comes to accomodation, we have stayed at the clients home, as well as 5 star hotels and everywhere in between. Just provide us a decent bed, with a roof over our head and a bathroom, and we are good to go! We are a non fussy bunch.

Q. What is your style of photography?
A. Ours is primarily a Candid/Photojournalistic style of taking pictures. To understand more about Candid photography please read “Candid Photography 101”, which explains in detail what it is. Wedding photography evolves everyday, and there are elements of traditional photography that need to be incorporated into a Candid style. For eg. posed pictures are considered non-candid by definition. But we do take elegant non-cliche posed pictures on weddings, which are aligned with our photojournalistic approach to photography.

Q. Do you do only Candid photography or do you provide traditional photography too?
A. We do provide traditional photography & Videography. We have tie ups with good traditional shooters, who shoot with the best equipment & are trained by us, to shoot in a more photojournalistic way, yet do a standard coverage of the wedding. We do not randomly outsource our traditional work. It is our goal to provide you with quality services in all that we provide.

Q. I loved the pictures that I saw on your Facebook Page. Would I be getting exactly the same quality images that I see on your page?
A. Yes of-course! Every good photographer worth his salt will have a single minded goal to click as good as pictures as he could. We put in our best into every wedding to click pictures that are incredible! And what you see on our website, Facebook, and other Social Media is a result of our hardwork, experience and the co-operation of our lovely clients. But every customer needs to understand that every photographer on the planet, including us, will put his best work on Facebook, Social Media, Websites and everywhere else. Those pictures are our best work, and every wedding will have a few of those extraordinary shots, a general crop of great shots, with some average shots which we had to take to cover something happening in not so conducive photographic conditions. A lot depends on the location, people, lighting, crowd, structure of mandap etc, time, attitude of the couple and so on and so forth.

Q. What if I feel that the photography done was not as per my expectations built up after I saw images on the Facebook page/website.
A. Photography consists of a few elements that need to come together in perfect unison to create stunning images, elements beyond the camera and the skill of the photographer. You can read of them in the link posted in the previous answer. If these elements do not come together, as well, it affects the image quality.

You cannot control all of these elements, but work with Knots and Vows on the above mentioned points, and your pictures will be awesome. Rest assured, we will do everything within our physical and mental abilities to take the most extraordinary pictures on your wedding day.

Q. Who does the copyright of all the images taken on the wedding day belong to?
A. By general law, copyright of an image belongs to the person who takes it using his/her camera. In the case of wedding pictures that are paid for, there is shared copyright ownership of the photographs between the person clicking it & the person paying for the photographs. That being said, we never use wedding pictures that we take for any other purpose other than showcasing our work on our website & social media. And there too, we use it with copyright watermarks.

Q. Would you be sharing our wedding pictures on your Social Media Channels? What if I do not want that?
A. Our Social Media Channels are our daily bread and butter. And we are nothing but thankful to the couples that give us the privilege of being part of their wedding & also gladly allowing us to share our work, so other couples looking for similar pictures for their wedding could find us. If you still do not want us to share your pictures on Social media, we could have a discussion about the same, so we could find an amicable solution to your concerns.

Q. Do you provide us with wedding albums, prints, videos and other wedding related services? I would love to get everything under the same roof.
A. Yes, we do! We are a full service Wedding Media Company and will provide you everything wedding that you could think up of. Video invites, Slideshows, Photo Frames, Printes, Live streaming, Elaborate video set-ups with Jimmy Jibs, Drone cameras, Photo booths, Video booths, Underwater Shoots etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on! Get in touch with us, and let us know your detailed requirements and we will provide you a solution that you will love.

1) Candid Photography: A set of selected high resolution processed images (around 300-350 per day), and a set of raw images that include all the photographs taken.
2) Traditional photography: All images in high resolution which are taken on the day. (These are just colour corrected if needed and not edited in detail).

4) Traditional film: A DVD (multiple DVDs depending on film size), with a jacket and case with a customized cover design containing the traditional film.
5) Cinematic film: A DVD (multiple DVDs depending on film size), with a jacket and case with a customized cover design containing the cinematic film.
6) Wedding trailer: A high resolution version of the trailer on Vimeo for social media sharing + trailer added to wedding DVD.

8) We have a range of other optional deliverables like Printed photos, photo frames, photo booths etc. Ask us about them when you talk to us, to know more.

Q. How much in advance do we need to book you?
A. It really depends on the date youre getting married. Many times we get booked upto one year before the wedding date. Especially there are some hot dates (dates with a good Muharat) on which we have multiple enquiries that are made. If we are booked out on a date, we dont take on other clients. Hence it is always better to book us as early as possible. Its the same as you would book an in demand hall, caterer or a DJ. The sooner the better.

We do take up last minute bookings too, if we are free. So do check with us anyways.

Q. How do we book you? How do we pay the booking amount?
A. We only consider a wedding booked, when you have payed a minimum of 30% of the amount of the package in advance. If you have verbally asked us to hold a date, we will intimate you for enquiries for your date that come afterwards, before we give out the date to someone else.  If you want to cancel, you need to do it with at least one month to spare to the date of the wedding. Any closer, and the amount you have payed in advance becomes non-refundable.

Q. Do you have an agreement of terms and conditions when the wedding is booked?
A. Yes, we do have an agreement of terms and conditions when a wedding is booked. Signed copies of this agreement are kept with us as well as the client, when the booking is made. If you are going ahead with booking us after speaking to us, we will provide you the terms & conditions and explain the same in the meeting too. The terms & conditions both protect the client as well as the photographer, are fair & tested over time.

Q. What kind of equipment do you use?
A. We primarily shoot on the Nikon system, and rest assured, we use the best lenses and Cameras available in their line-up. We sometimes do shoot on Cannon too. But beyond this, we believe that a good photographer, focuses on the camera specifications, a great photographer focuses on lighting, but the artist focuses on the eye. It is our eye that separates us from the rest of the competition. Anyone could go out and buy the top of the line Cameras. But developing an eye, takes a natural gift, sharpened with the whetstone of experience and labour.

Q. Who edits the photographs you take?
A. We ourselves do! the founders! Yup. We tried hiring people and tried outsourcing the work. But no one puts in themselves into a project, as the owner of it. Anyone else but us editing the images just doesn’t make the cut. Naah, it just doesn’t.

Q. I find the rates of Candid photographers to be expensive. Do you offer discounts?
A. Nothing beautiful comes easy. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Good quality Candid/photojournalistic photography is hard. The immense amount of hardwork happening behind the scenes, is usually hidden. The number of balls in the air that we juggle to pull out what we do is scary! Trust us on this. The price is fair.
