Mesmerising Mihirgarh, Jodhpur – A Royal Rendezvous

Jodhpur is always associated with beauty and royalty and in our minds an extraordinary place for pre-wedding shoot options . A shoot in Jodhpur, and youll see the K&V bunch go a bit nuts with excitement! And since we are wanderers at heart we decided to drive up all the way to Jodhpur from Mumbai, instead of taking a flight or a train. We had another shoot in Kota, and we thought that a drive through Rajasthan (Mumbai-Kota-Jodhpur-Udaipur) would be real fun! And was it?!

Mesmerising Mihirgarh
Getting to our subject for this story, mesmerising Mihirgarh. These were one of the multiple locations we shot at. Probably the most extraordinary one though! Mihirgarh was listed by lonelyplanet as the worlds most extraordinary hotel! Beat that! The hotel is situated absolutely in the middle of nowhere and is a fort that was built in 2009 from scratch. More than 100 local carpenter and craftsmen worked over two years to create this brilliant property.

A dainty place in the middle of nowhere:
We headed out from the groom, Vikas’s place in Central Jodhpur southwards on the Jodhpur-Pali Highway. Mahavir, the grooms friend who was riding with us in our was our navigator. He also told us of the very famous Bullet Baba Mandir, that was just a bit further south on the highway (we made a point to visit it on our way back). We turned right off the highway into a narrow road, and made a quick stop at RohetGarh, the older comrade of MihirGarh. We then headed out into a narrow tar road that went straight out into nowhere! After a while, we left it for a mud trail! The trail was a mixture of mud and sand, covered with jeep tracks, which went straight into the desert. This was more like a sandy shrub desert than a sand dune desert. In a while, out of the shrubbery appeared one of the most dainty and beautiful forts we had laid our eyes on!

We had left Jodhpur city at around 3:30 pm, and were at Mihir Garh by around 4:30pm. So we were in the danger of loosing light, if we wouldn’t shoot quick enough. We scouted the location, rubbed our hands together in anticipation & joy and started clicking away. Here are some pictures from our shoot with Vikas & Shilpa at Mihir Garh.
